The configurator writes a complete RouterOS v7 configuration for you. You choose your model, say what the device should do, and you get a script you paste into the terminal. No account is involved and nothing is sent to a server: what you type stays in your browser, passwords and keys included.
1. Choose what you are building
The start page offers four ways in. You can switch at any time, including halfway through.
- One device — you have a single router, switch or access point. Start here if you are not sure what you need.
- Multiple devices — a whole network at once: a router, switches and access points sharing the same VLANs and Wi-Fi. See Multiple devices.
- Network board — you draw your network and run cables between ports. The same site as above, a different view. See The network board.
- Wi-Fi plan — a floor plan with walls and access points, to see where you have coverage. See The Wi-Fi plan.
2. Pick your model
Find your model in the list, for example hAP ax³ or RB5009. Its ports, radios and RouterOS level decide what the configurator offers you next, so picking the right one saves manual work later. If your model is not listed, the nearest model from the same series is usually close enough. See Choosing your device.
3. Answer the questions
The wizard asks one thing per step: what this device becomes, how it reaches the internet, which networks you want, which Wi-Fi. Every step explains why the question matters. If you would rather decide everything yourself, flip the switch at the top to advanced: the same configuration, with every part laid out separately. See The wizard and Advanced.
There is nothing to remember: everything you enter is kept in your browser, even if you close the tab.
4. Read the script
On the right, your configuration grows as you fill things in. Above the script sit the warnings and checks: overlapping subnets, a VLAN that goes nowhere, a password that is too short. Deal with those first, they are not decoration.
5. Put it on your device
Reset the device to factory defaults first, paste the script into the terminal in WinBox or over SSH, and then check that you can still reach it. The script comes with a rollback script that undoes everything. How to do that safely is in Using the script.
Where your work lives
Your work is kept in your own browser, per project. You can have several projects side by side, name them and switch between them. To move something to another computer or show it to someone, export a file or a link. See Saving and sharing.
Already have a router running?
Then you do not have to start over. Paste the output of /export into the import button and the configurator reads your current settings. If your configuration comes from RouterOS v6, use the v6 import: it converts what changed name in v7 and tells you what to check by hand.
